Grange Choral Society's Guest Conductor

Derek Goodger - Guest Conductor January - April 200

Derek Goodger trained at the Royal College of Music, London, as a pianist, organist and conductor; specialising in piano accompanying, operatic coaching and conducting

As well as becoming a full-time school music teacher for Hampshire Education (retiring in 1994 after 36 years) Derek developed his professional work with young musicians in the County and with many singers from Covent Garden, Sadler's Wells, English National Opera and Glyndebourne.

For 27 years, until his retirement in 1998 Derek was Musical Director of the Southampton Choral Society, and during this time regularly conducted the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, Southern Pro Musica; and worked with many national and international soloists.

Derek is still very active teaching, accompanying and coaching professional singers. He has said that musicians never retire, 'They just re-allocate their time!'

DANIEL COOK, NEW MUSICAL DIRECTOR

The Grange Choral Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Cook as its new Director of Music in succession to Chris Dawe. Daniel will take up his post immediately following this concert. Coming highly recommended from a very strong choral music background in the cathedral world, he is currently Assistant Musical Director at Salisbury Cathedral having previously been the Assistant Organist at Westminster Abbey.

With a young man as our leader, the Society is looking forward to, not only continuing to work on the traditional choral repertoire, but also exploring other interesting programmes.

More information about Daniel will appear on our late April website.

The Society also wishes to express thanks and appreciation to Derek Goodger who has guided us through the rehearsals in preparation for this concert and given us the time to make the choice of our new Director a lot less pressured than would otherwise have been the case.

Joanne Corbin - Rehearsal Accompanist
Joanne Corbin has been the Rehearsal Pianist for Grange Choral Society since January 2005, for Brockenhurst Choir since 2006 and for Lymington Choral Society since September 2007.

Joanne made two well-acclaimed concert performances with Grange at the Regent Centre: Carmina Burana with pianist Derek Goodger in 2005 and Hiawatha with pianist Helen Woodgates in 2006.

Joanne was Musical Director for a New Forest Players schools production of Les Misérables in February 2007 where she played to full houses. In October 2007 she played Carmina Burana for Voices for Hospices at St. Thomas Church, Lymington.

GRANGE ORCHESTRA & SOLOISTS
